Install AutoPilot

← Back to Documentation

AutoPilot is a desktop application that you download and install on your computer. It is currently available for Windows. This page walks you through downloading the app, running the installer, and opening AutoPilot for the first time.

Install AutoPilot

Follow these steps to get AutoPilot running on your Windows machine.

  1. Download AutoPilot from the download page.
  2. Run the Windows installer and follow the on-screen prompts.
  3. Open AutoPilot once the installation finishes.
  4. On launch, AutoPilot checks for updates automatically. See Auto-update for details on how updates are handled.
Note: AutoPilot is currently Windows-only. Support for other platforms is not available at this time.
Important: Early beta builds are not yet code signed, so Windows may show a SmartScreen unknown publisher warning when you run the installer. This is expected for now and will be resolved once code signing is added. To continue, select More info on the warning dialog, then choose Run anyway.

Troubleshooting

The installer does not open

If nothing happens when you run the downloaded file:

  • Confirm the download finished completely before opening the file. A partial download can prevent the installer from starting.
  • Re-download AutoPilot from the download page and run the new copy.
  • Check whether your antivirus moved the file to quarantine. If so, restore it and try again.
  • If a SmartScreen unknown publisher warning appears, select More info, then Run anyway.

The app does not launch after install

If installation completed but AutoPilot will not open:

  • Restart your computer and try opening AutoPilot again.
  • Open AutoPilot as the current user (the same Windows account you installed it with).
  • Check your antivirus quarantine in case the application was blocked, and restore it if needed.
  • Reinstall by downloading a fresh copy from the download page and running the installer again.

An update banner appears

If you see an update banner when AutoPilot starts, a newer version is available. Follow the prompt to apply it. For more on how this works, see Auto-update.
